2.nd INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE ASSOCIATION ANIMATION CONTEST of FOLKTALES and FABLES

Title: 2.nd International Folklore Association Animation Contest of Folktales and Fables

Objective: The goal of International Animation Festival of Folktales and Fables 'The 2nd Animation Contest of Folktales and Fables' (hereby referred to as 'contest') is to unearth promising animation artists in order to support them in their future endeavors. The contest will offer a place for animation artists to display their works as well as an opportunity to exchange ideas and techniques with other artists. Through this, it is anticipated that the number of animation artists and corresponding works will continue to grow worldwide.

Theme: Animation works created in a story-like format that correspond to folktales, fables, myths, legends, and folkways that are conceived in nature or lifestyle, of the Hida and any regions in the world are invited to enter this contest. Original animation works based on modern-day interpretations are also welcome.

Entry Requirements: All entries (including CG) must adhere to the conditions stated below in order to be considered for judgment. All entries will be judged equally irrespective of the entrant's nationality, age, professional or amateur status:

Animation screening time does not exceed 30 minutes

Animation is an original piece and follows the guidelines relating to theme and contest objectives

Animation pieces completed within the last 4 years (Since January 1st 2004)

Animations that have already been released either domestically or internationally are still eligible for entry

Animations that have received past awards at other festivals are also eligible. In such a case, documentation certifying each respective event date is required

Animations using any existing music, characters and/or scenarios must have obtained explicit permission in advance to do so or they will not be judged

Animation does not contain content that violates public order on standards and decency

Judges: Following 6 members will be selected as judges. If judges are changed, new judges will be selected by the sponsor and their names will be announced on the sponsor website.

Acknowledgement of use for Promotional Purposes: If entrants are not declaring that they will not put forward a protest, by submitting the application form, they are also acknowledging that part of their animation or materials relating to it may be used for promotional purposes. The sponsor reserves the right to freely reproduce up to 20% of an entrant's animation for promotion on television, internet, video or any other advertising medium. In addition, the sponsor may include on its website or guidebook, any information relating to animation data (storyline, running time etc.) as stated on the entrant's application form.

Entry Format: All entries are restricted to either of the following formats (Please note that 16mm and 35mm film will not be accepted):

VHS videotape
CD
Betacam
DVD

Entry pieces sent for the purpose of this contest will not be returned
Any accompanying reference material (videotapes, pamphlets etc.) will not be returned

Deadline for Entries: June 2005 (Applications will not be accepted after this date).

Screening: The animations of the winning entrants and the runners up will be screened during the festival in July 2005.
